The Shift is a spatial exploration project built around four core ideas: voxelization, inlays, looping mazes, and omni-directional movement. The world is designed so that the player can walk on any surface: walls, ceilings, or tilted planes. This questions our default relationship to engaging with the ground.

Orientation becomes fluid, and navigating the maze is intentionally disorienting, pushing the player to rethink how space is experienced.

The Shift ultimately explores various concepts, such as voxelization, to create the world. The concept of ground has also been rethought and twisted around to create an omni-directional world.

The main story of The Shift revolves around the fact that you, the player, have been trapped in a labyrinth, where the concept of a ground is lost, and you can walk on any surface. You have just repaired a mech companion that acts like a light source for you. The more you explore, the more you get to uncover the labyrinth’s secrets. Inside the labyrinth’s wall, you find mechs inlaid into it. As you explore more, you understand the true nature of the labyrinth, and understand that not everything is at it seemed to be.
